Parenting Time

Sharing time with your children is often the most difficult issue in any family matter. Sometimes, the parents can rationally reach an agreement regarding the best interests of their children. Often, however, that is not possible for a number of reasons. In Michigan, the period during which a child visits exclusively with one parent is called “parenting time.” Sometimes, it is referred to as “visitation.” Parenting time is a right that exists independent of custody.

Generally, parents are encouraged to agree upon the best schedule to foster and encourage a relationship with both parents. If the parents are unable to agree, the Court will make the determination based upon several factors. Attorneys at CMDA work hard to ensure the best possible parenting time arrangement is in place for our clients.
