Lanae Monera is an attorney in our Grand Rapids office where she focuses her practice in the areas of civil litigation defense, insurance defense, and municipal law. Prior to joining CMDA, she served as Assistant Corporation Counsel for a Michigan county with emphasis on contract review and formation and statutory compliance, which included creating terms and conditions for county contracts, reviewing and negotiating hundreds of contracts, and revamping insurance requirements for county vendors in order to minimize risk and protect the county’s interests. Additionally, she analyzed and revised county policies and rules to promote constitutional and statutory compliance, researched various legal issues and provided opinions and recommendations to elected officials and county departments, and developed and implemented a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) response system to maximize efficiency and answered hundreds of FOIAs while applying relevant exemptions.
Ms. Monera also focuses her practice on motor vehicle liability. She is skilled with resolving first- and third-party auto claims including claims filed through the Michigan Assigned Claims Plan. She also has extensive experience representing defendants in premises, dram shop (liquor) liability and construction claims. In addition to defending policyholders and insurance carriers in litigation, Monera prosecutes claims on behalf of motor vehicle insurers against other insurers under the Michigan No-Fault Act’s priority rules. She also has experience investigating and prosecuting fraudulent claims on behalf of insurance companies.
