Legal Assistant- Kansas City
CMDA is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary/Paralegal with a strong work ethic and professional and friendly demeanor for its Kansas City, Missouri office. Qualified candidates should have at least five years of legal experience in civil litigation; experience in family law a plus. Knowledge of e-filing in state and federal courts and familiarity with court rules is necessary.
Job responsibilities include:
- Preparation of legal documents, including pleadings, discovery, motions, and pre-trial pleadings
- Conduct research and investigate facts
- Request, review, and summarize medical, employment, business, and other records
- Prepare medical chronologies, medical billing spreadsheets, and records summaries
- Prepare and file documents electronically with state and federal courts
- Assist attorneys in bench and jury trial preparation
- Maintain professional interactions with clients in person, via telephone and/or e-mail
- Manage attorney calendars, including hearing dates, court deadlines, deposition dates, and meetings/appointments
- Open and create new files, run conflict checks, and close files
- Schedule hearing dates, attorney meetings, and deposition dates
- Transcription of digital dictation
- File, mail, scan, and fax documents
- Perform other general administrative tasks as assigned
